To care or not to care?

To suffer injustice and horror in silence

To allow bloodshed and abuse of children

And shrug my shoulders and look the other way

Repeating adulterated logic and reason

As if the words mend devastating heart-ache:

“Life is not fair”

The statement darkening the brightest light

Deadening all hope of comfort and protection

Commanding the silencing of any protest uttered

By a child with bewildered innocent eyes

Betrayed by words barely just learned

An angel’s soul flogged by cold rhetoric

Eyes filled with tears at the lacking compassion

And the logic of the adulterated lingers

Confusion over not being understood

Shaming laughter hurled at the broken spirit

And then the death of hope creeps in

To never trust in life being kind

To accept without protest all wrongs

Annd to always justify injustice the same way

Becoming one who spreads death in souls

Using the same words that once killed your soul

“Life is not fair” – your eyes dead and your fire out
